Sports
The children are involved in a number of sporting events during the year, including cross country training and competitions, football and athletics. A large selection of clubs are also organised, many of which are run by Ed Start. These include dodge ball, gymnastics and rugby.
Sport achievements
We are always so proud of the dedication our children show to their sporting endeavours and even more proud of how they conduct themselves. They always work as a team and cheer each other. here are just a few of our sporting achievements:
Cross Country
Our children have competed in the cross country competitions against other schools in the area. All the children were amazing. Our year 5 girls came 3rd, our year 6 girls 2nd and our year 6 boys came 1st.
Football
Littleborough played in the Whittles league football final and it was a hard-fought contest against a very talented Walsden side. We managed to win the match 3-1 and lift the shield. Well done to all the players who have been apart of the team.
Athletics
Children from year 4, 5 and 6 enter Springhill Athletics competition each year. Trials for this event will begin in the Spring Term and the competition will be in Summer.
Netball
Children from year 5 and 6 took part in a school netball tournament. They were amazing and managed to win all of their games.
Sport Premium Funding 2024-2025
At Littleborough Community Primary School we believe it is important for all children to be given the opportunity to participate in competitive sport, through both intra and inter sports competitions. The school aims to introduce children to a range of sporting activities and to encourage them to appreciate how such interests can “enrich” their lives.
We believe that Physical Education and sport play a vital role in the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children. Physical Education and sport are central in giving children the knowledge and understanding in order to make a positive impact on their own health and well-being. The physical education curriculum at Littleborough Primary School aims to provide children with the opportunity to take part in a wide range of sports and physical activities, carried out in a safe and supportive environment, where effort and hard-work, as well as success, is celebrated.
Developing Sportsmanship is also a key priority at Littleborough Community Primary School. We understand that it is also important to develop children’s resilience, teamwork and respect during Sporting events; these become transferable skills across all areas of the children’s lives.
Impact of Sport Premium at Littleborough Primary School 2024-2025
Last year we were able to offer more sports clubs to children across all classes and promote a love of sport across the whole school.
Teaching staff were able to observe coaches throughout the year in order to develop their understanding of how to teach specific sports effectively. We worked closely with these coaches to ensure we offered a broad and balanced PE curriculum across all key stages. The purpose of this was to increase confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE. We are confident that our pupils are exposed to a wide range of sporting activities and are physically literate, with the knowledge and skills to help them compete and understand what it means to live a healthy lifestyle. We aim to develop a love for sports, encouraging children to participate in sporting events and physical activity now and when they move on to high school and beyond.
We are currently members of the Pennine School Sports Association. This fantastic opportunity opened up a huge range of sporting competitions for the children, for example: football, cross country, dance and athletics.
We were able to purchase the best suited equipment needed to help the children’s skills develop in new sports e.g. howler throw in preparation for the Athletics competition.
Please see the forms below for the 2024-2025 expenditure report. Within the report, you can see a breakdown of our PE and Sport Premium funding and the impact this funding has had on our school.
